West Ham United made several top quality additions during the summer transfer window, bringing the likes of Lucas Paqueta and Gianluca Scamacca. However, they have endured a disappointing campaign so far as they are sitting 16th in the league table, collecting a meagre 14 points from 15 matches.
Despite their domestic struggles, the Hammers are represented well for the World Cup. Five of their players have been named in the 2022 World Cup squads, all of whom we have discussed below.
1- Declan Rice
Declan Rice has been consistently brilliant for the Hammers over the years. His selection for the World Cup isn’t a surprise for anyone as he is highly-rated for his passing, concentration, blocking and ball interception skills.
Rice is only 23-years-old but has already made 35 appearances for England. He is likely to be an important figure for the Three Lions in the prestigious tournament in Qatar.
2- Alphonse Areola
Alphonse Areola has been a back-up goalkeeper at West Ham and now he will be serving the same role for France at the World Cup. However, it will still be an amazing opportunity for him.
3- Lucas Paqueta
Lucas Paqueta is one of the lucky few who has been selected in the Brazil squad. However, with an abundance of talent at the disposal of Tite, Paqueta is not guaranteed to be part of the playing XI.
4- Nayef Aguerd
Nayef Aguerd hasn’t been a regular starter for the Irons this season. But there is no doubt that he is very talented and has been called-up to represent Morocco at the World Cup.
5- Thilo Kehrer
Thilo Kehrer arrived at the East London outfit in the summer and has featured in 13 Premier League appearances so far this season. He has been called-up for international duty in Qatar and will be aiming to do well for Germany this year.
