West Ham have strong chance of signing Lille striker Jonathan David despite interest from five Premier League clubs

West Ham United have endured a disappointing 2024-25 campaign.

The Hammers replaced Julen Lopetegui with Graham Potter in January, but the English boss is yet to revive their fortunes.

West Ham have won just two of their previous eight matches in the Premier League. The international break is now over and they will look to bounce back when they take on Wolverhampton Wanderers at the Molineux Stadium next week, with the match available for live streaming.

The East Londoners desperately need reinforcements in attack, with Niclas Fullkrug and Michail Antonio both sidelined with injury issues.

According to The i Paper, the Irons want Lille goal machine Jonathan David and have made contact with the player’s representives.

They face competition from five other Premier League clubs, including Newcastle United, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea and Liverpool.

However, the report suggests that West Ham have a strong chance of sealing a move as David’s camp are impressed with Potter’s plans for the club.

Manchester United have registered an interest, but a transfer is unlikely as he is not the kind of player Ruben Amorim is seeking.

Meanwhile, Liverpool want a more out-and-out number nine and prefer Newcastle’s Alexander Isak.

London club Chelsea is not very appealing for David as they have already have several forwards on their books.

The Canada international would be a brilliant signing for West Ham.

He is young and has proven himself in France with Lille. Since joining the Ligue 1 outfit, the 25-year-old has scored 107 goals and created 27 asssists in 224 appearances in all competitions.

This season, he has already 14 goals and three assists to his name in 24 league games.

David also scored against Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League earlier this month, but couldn’t help Lille from crashing out of the tournament.
