Preview: Luton Town vs West Ham United – prediction, team news, line-ups

West Ham United will be looking to maintain their unbeaten run when they go head-to-head with newcomers Luton Town at Kenilworth Road on Friday night.

Luton pulled off an incredible feat last season when they made it to the Premier League via the playoffs

Despite their tight finances, they finished third in the Championship table before beating Coventry City in the play-offs final in May.

However, life in the English top-flight is entirely different than in the second-tier as their difficult start to the new campaign proves.

The Hatters fell to a 4-1 defeat in their league opener at Brighton & Hove Albion, with Solly March, Joao Pedro, Simon Adingra, and Evan Ferguson all scoring for the hosts.

They were scheduled to play Burnley at home but the match was postponed due to the ground improvement work at their stadium

Rob Edwards’ men travelled to Chelsea last weekend but suffered another heavy defeat at Stamford Bridge.

Raheem Sterling was the standout performer as he added goals in each half to put his side in a commanding position.

Nicolas Jackson also earned his name on the scoresheet as the Blues ran out 3-0 winners in West London.

But on a brighter note, Luton outclassed League Two outfit Gillingham 3-2 on Tuesday to qualify for the third round of the EFL Cup.

Meanwhile, West Ham are flying high at the moment, having secured seven points from their first three league matches.

They kicked off their new campaign with a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth, with Dominic Solanke’s late strike cancelling out the advantage of Jarrod Bowen’s goal.

But they bounced back with a big 3-1 win over Chelsea at the London Stadium.

The two teams were level at 1-1 at half-time but Michail Antonio provided the hosts a lead with a brilliant finish on 53 minutes.

In a big blow, Nayef Aguerd was sent off in the 67th minute reducing them to 10-men.

But they still sealed a brilliant success with Lucas Paqueta adding another in the injury-time.

David Moyes’ men went on to claim back-to-back wins last weekend at the expense of Brighton.

New signing James Ward-Prowse opened the scoring before Bowen and Anotonio struck in the second-half to put the Hammers in complete control of the match.

Pascal Groß pulled one back but that only served as a small consolation for the Seagulls who had come into the fixture on the back of two big victories.

Team News

Luton Town boss Rob Edwards will not be able to avail the services of Dan Potts, Gabriel Osho, and Jordan Clark on Friday as they are all nursing injuries.

Meanwhile, the Hammers will be without new signing Konstantinos Mavropanos as he continues to recover from a lower back issue in latest West Ham news. Tomas Soucek is a doubt after he left the field before half-time last weekend.
